Seminar on Supporting Challenging Behaviors

by | Jul 6, 2024

On June 22, Ray of Hope hosted a highly anticipated seminar titled “Systems, Strategies, and Skills: How to Support Challenging Behaviors.” The event, held from 9 am to 12.30 pm, aimed to equip parents and teachers with effective communication skills to better support children with learning difficulties.

Ray of Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving dignity and hope to individuals with learning difficulties and their families. The seminar was part of our ongoing efforts to provide valuable resources and training to those who play a crucial role in the lives of these individuals.

Our guest speaker for the day was Melody Goh, a distinguished Behavior Analyst with a wealth of experience in special education. Melody holds a Master of Arts in Special Education and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). She has been a practitioner in the field of behavioral science since 2015, with extensive experience working in both home and school settings. Her professional background includes teaching at various educational levels, providing behavior therapy, supervision, and consultation internationally. She is well-versed in creating behavior intervention plans and working with students with developmental disabilities and autism.

The seminar was divided into two main sessions. The first session, attended by approximately 20 parents, focused on the importance of communication in managing challenging behaviors. Melody shared valuable insights and practical strategies to help parents understand and support their children better. Her expertise in behavior analysis and special education was evident as she provided clear, actionable advice tailored to the unique needs of each family.

In the second session, Melody shifted her focus to the teachers at Ray of Hope. She provided training on effective communication skills and strategies to manage challenging behaviors in the classroom. This session was instrumental in empowering our teachers with the tools they need to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Melody’s approach was both informative and engaging, fostering an atmosphere of learning and collaboration. Her ability to connect with both parents and teachers highlighted the importance of a unified approach in supporting children with learning difficulties.

The seminar was a resounding success, leaving attendees with a deeper understanding of the systems, strategies, and skills necessary to support challenging behaviors. At Ray of Hope, we are committed to continuing our efforts to provide high-quality training and resources to our community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Melody Goh for her invaluable contribution and to all the parents and teachers who participated in this enriching event.

Together, we are making strides towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with learning difficulties, ensuring they receive the dignity and hope they deserve.
