On 14 August 2025 (Thursday), Ray Of Hope organised a meaningful community-based learning activity at AEON Mall Kinta City, where our students with special needs, together with their parents and teachers, took part in a hands-on programme focused on daily living skills.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The day began with a grocery shopping session, where each student was given a shopping list to follow. This simple yet impactful activity gave them the opportunity to practise:
- Identifying and selecting items from the shelves
- Comparing choices and making decisions
- Managing money by counting cash, receiving change, and using a wallet responsibly
With gentle guidance from parents and teachers, the students gained practical experiences that went far beyond textbooks—learning skills essential for everyday independence.

Lunch Together, Learning Together
After shopping, everyone proceeded to the food court for lunch. Here, students practised social communication and decision-making, from ordering their own meals to enjoying a meal together with their families and peers. This real-life setting nurtured their confidence and encouraged greater independence in a supportive environment.

More Than Just a Day Out
What made this programme especially meaningful was the involvement of parents, who played an important role in reinforcing learning. The collaboration between home and school not only strengthened the students’ community mobility skills and financial literacy, but also deepened their sense of achievement.
The day ended with smiles, laughter, and a boost of confidence for our students—proving once again that every small step leads to greater independence.
At Ray Of Hope, we believe that these experiences are the building blocks to empower children and young adults with special needs to thrive in everyday life.
